Lazarus House
Non-Profit

About: Since opening its doors as an emergency homeless shelter in 1983, Lazarus House has been breaking the cycle of poverty in the Merrimack Valley region. Our food and clothing programs assist families by stretching their dollars so they can afford rent, heat and utilities. Housing provides a safe haven for homeless families and individuals. We have developed an extensive learning environment that provides ESOL and work prep classes and training for success enabling guests to become self-reliant.

The people served by Lazarus House live a daily struggle to get the most basic needs. We provide physical, emotional and spiritual shelter from the hardships suffered in their lives, giving them the opportunity to have choices they otherwise would not have.

Less than 1% of our income is from government sources, so Lazarus House relies on the generosity of our many donors. We serve people without the restrictions of government funding. This allows us to care for the individual rather than lead with specific service mandates and constraints, therefore, motivating our guests to rise above poverty with dignity and respect.
