Networking Success Story - Joan Parcewski Woods Real Estate

As a Realtor I am always looking for new ways to spread the word about what I do and, in particular, the niche market that I serve (the senior market aka baby boomer generation).  There is no better way, no more personal way, than through face to face networking. Being part of Friends of Kevin has helped me to reach more people and tell my story to a wider audience than other networking that I have tried. 

Kevin's events are run very differently than others around.  Because he makes it a point to know the participants in the room, he also goes out of his way to ensure that people who should meet have that opportunity.  As a result it is a win for everyone.

His events have allowed me to not only meet people who are a good fit to help my seniors but also, at times, to help some of the organizations that I am proud to be a part of as well (eg Billerica Lions and the Billerica Health & Wellness Fair). 

I am very pleased that I made the decision to be part of Friends of Kevin and wish I had done it much sooner than I did.

I’m not really sure where to start when it comes to how networking not only helped save my business, but also grow it. My company has been in business for 28 years and we are one of the largest in our industry. Over the last 28 years, we have done next to nothing for networking or even advertising. If there was ever a time that work got slow, we would send out flyers to potential customers. Anyone that deals in marketing analytics knows that direct mail ROI (return on investment) is somewhere in the neighborhood of .5-.7%. In our last year, it was 0%. This created somewhat of a panic since our existing clients were not pulling the trigger on jobs we already priced for them. We needed new clients to supplement the existing and we needed them yesterday.

 

I was willing to try anything to grow my business, so when a friend of mine invited me to a AM networking event, I went. As I worked the room, I found that no one had really heard of my company or maybe did hear of us but didn’t know what we did. Many businesses would be unhappy that this was the case (especially if you are one of the larger players), but I saw it as an opportunity to brand. First, I took a look at my clients and contact sphere to see what relationships I had available to leverage. After that, I just started playing “The Connector”. I passed referral after referral to connect other businesses with my clients. As the referrals turned into money, I started to receive referrals. My business went from being $50k behind LY to being ahead of LY by $40k in just three months.

 

For me, it was all mindset. I had to learn to walk into networking event with the mindset to help others achieve their goals. That mindset attracted other like-minded individuals toward me which created not only clients and referrals, but also professional friendships. To many people attend networking events with the mindset of seeing what they can get out of others, and if it doesn’t hit their expectation, then they leave. Networking is all about building lasting relationships and achieving goals together through our contact spheres. When you become a resource to others, then you will develop trust. Trust develops into referrals. Referrals develop into money!

Networking Success Story - Nelia Benjamin - NJB Accounting Solutions

Nelia Benjamin is a busy Accounting Consultant who, from time to time, uses networking organizations to build her network of professional services.  She keeps these on hand for when her clients have a need.
 
Nelia is the President and founder of NJB Accounting Solutions. For over 16 years NJB Accounting Solutions has relied on word of mouth referral from grateful and satisfied clients. Clients such as Paychex payroll services have chosen to work closely with Nelia for over 7 years due to the excellent care and service that Nelia offers her clients
 
NJB Accounting Solutions offers all the traditional Accounting Services i.e. :income tax preparation, bookkeeping, Quick Books training, IRS projects, meals tax preparation, etc. In addition Nelia offers subcontracted Controller or CFO services for many of her clients. 

NJB Accounting Solutions provides services to many different industries from medical, to retail, restaurant, professional services, contractors, and so on.
Nelia is on the road daily visiting and working with clients. She offers in-house services as well as what the traditional local CPA does.
Nelia also coaches businesses from  inception to growth and/or termination of the businesses. "I love what I do because I change the world one person at a time. My clients tell me that I make such a difference in their business lives as well as personal. Being a business coach allows me to also do a lot of personal coaching it really goes hand in hand. if you have problems in the business it's going to infiltrate in the personal life and vice-versa."
 
Nelia continues to grow her practice slowly because her number one priority is to make each client feel like they are the only one she has.
Nelia has a small part-time staff that assists her. As a result of networking she has the opportunity to also give back to community by partnering up with employment organizations where she loves to train people that want to go into the accounting field and are unemployed.
 
Nelia's advice to networkers is to make it a long term commitment and just enjoy the process. It's about making a solid network of good relationships and giving before taking.
 "People need to know that you are real and trustworthy before they commit to giving you a referral. I chose quality networking partners that will take excellent care of my client’s needs. I am very protective of my clients and expect excellent service and integrity from the businesses that I network with and refer to my clients or that I use to service my own needs because that is how I operate in return. I truly enjoy networking because to me I am visiting with friends or making new friends. I feel like a little kid back in school. I just love people and really enjoy their company. Now that I have staff I am looking forward to network more and even hosting networking events at my office located at 224 Main street in Salem NH at the Santo Professional Building."
